Founded in 1975, the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) is a community made up of countries from the West African region that share economic and development interests and aim to maintain regional stability. However, this stability is being put to the test following numerous recent coups and insurrections within member countries. While a military operation is mentioned, some remain hopeful in the path of negotiation.
