On the last 24th of October 2023 was organized in Iceland the sixth “Kvennafri” or Women’s Day off since 1975. This country of 378 000 inhabitants in the Norwegian Sea was completely shut down for the entire day. The reason: women stopped working to protest against the wage gap and gender-based violence that still are a problem in society. More than a quarter of Icelandic women and non-binary persons were out in the streets to support the cause (more than 100 000 people).
